Man Overboard
(Copyright 2010, David Stephenson)

I dreamt I was a captain on the open sea
With a fake British accent in a wood dinghy
I take it straight up
I got a stiff lip
Dear manifest this, my destiny
I’ve got an ill-tempered crew set on mutiny
We’re going nowhere, I’m getting seasick

Laughing at myself
Can’t find the oars to the boat
I’m laughing at myself
Cause I can’t find the oars

The doldrums are more than a mark on the map
But you can muscle thru them if you’ve got the tack
Just steer a straight course
Like a draft horse
Salt water in my veins
Blood on the bow
Turning my blue-boned hands to marrow
I really spaced out
It’s been a rough year

I’m laughing at myself
Can’t find the oars to the boat
Laughing at myself
Cause I can’t find the oars
Going nowhere slow
Your Majesty I must confess
The mission is under duress
But I shan’t give up

Man overboard a splash and a heave
Man overboard turned out to be me
I hear alarm clock, all dreams come full stop

I’m laughing at myself
Can’t find the oars to the boat
Laughing at myself
Cause I can’t find the oars
Rum ration low
You’re majesty I must confess
The mission is under duress
But I shan’t give up
No I shan’t give up

The mission mantra, declared by David at the start of the session was, "blood on the microphone, blood on the console". Now you be the judge! ... more
